Laguna Beach Seniors Provide Assistance For Locals

Laguna Beach Seniors is the hometown nonprofit that operates The Susi Q Center, and also looks out for the long-term needs of everyone in the community. The Susi Q Center is designed to help seniors live it up and meet the challenges of time.

Lifelong Laguna is a commitment to a global aging-in-place movement. It is an ambitious vision of coordinated programs and services that reach beyond the walls of The Susi Q to help seniors live at home, in their hometown for the rest of their lives. Lifelong Laguna is very much a work in progress and is initially focused on several key areas of service.

Caregiving

  • The hardest thing about caregiving can be the isolation it brings. That’s why Caregiving for the Caregiver was created. Family caregivers need a sympathetic ear and an understanding heart. Trained volunteers and licensed professionals connect caregivers to resources that ease the practical burdens of caregiving. For one-on-one phone support with trained volunteers, they can call 949-715-8105, Mon-Fri, 9-3. A support group with a licensed therapist is offered the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, 3-4:30 (drop-ins welcome).

Transportation

  • When seniors stop driving, Laguna Beach has a number of transportation options to help get them around town, to The Susi Q, and to their medical appointments. With CAR(E)FREE LAGUNA, Laguna Beach Seniors are joining a conversation that has been going on for years about how to become a less car-centric community. It will take years, just as it did to “buckle up” without thinking about it, for alternatives to driving to become an unremarkable part of everyday life, as well as lifelines.

Resources

  • Lifelong Laguna offers many resources to caregivers, for aging-in-place safely, and referrals to many Orange County nonprofits and resources.
